From November 16th to 19th, the cultural hub of Cologne came alive with the vibrant displays of the 56th edition of the Art Cologne fair. Drawing participation from 170 galleries across 29 countries, the event proved to be a spectacular showcase of artistic prowess. Over the course of four days, a staggering 45,000 art enthusiasts and collectors immersed themselves in the diverse offerings.
Art Cologne’s director, Daniel Hug, reflected on the fair’s theme, stating, “This year, we focused on the art of the 20th and 21st centuries, the field in which we originally specialized. As sales demonstrate, this decision has had a positive effect.”

One of the standout successes came from the Thaddaeus Ropac Gallery, which announced the sale of four pieces by Mark Brandenburg at impressive price points – €33,000, €25,000, €20,000, and €18,000, respectively. Notably, Tony Cragg’s compelling work, “The Incident,” commanded a substantial price of €325,000. At the Sprüth Magers stand, Walter Dan’s “Funny Tyroleans” fetched €130,000, while works by Astrid Klein and Nora Turato also found new homes.
The BASTIAN Gallery celebrated a notable sale, finding a buyer for Pierre Auguste Renoir’s piece, “Two Figures Against a Landscape,” at the impressive price of €340,000.
These high-profile sales underscore the dynamic atmosphere at Art Cologne, where a convergence of international galleries and art aficionados culminated in the successful exchange of significant works.
